How it all began....

This blog is my first attempt at doing so and thought I would pick a topic that a lot of you can or will relate to at some point in your life.

My intent is to chronicle our kitchen remodel from an old and ugly 1970-ish kitchen to a modern, sleek and gorgeous new updated kitchen that will be a joy to cook in.  Back in November I had a brilliant idea to have someone come over and talk to me about cabinet refacing.  You keep the same cabinets you have, but then put on new doors and hardware all to give it a new look.  I also wanted to have new counter tops added.  Well to make a long story short, there was not much price difference between refacing/new counter tops and replacing our existing cabinets/new counter top as the major portion of the cost is the counter top.  So, I opted for the new cabinets and counter top, signed a contract and then proceeded to talk my husband into it over the weekend.

Once he was on board then the worrying began about how we were going to pay for it, who would be here when the workers were here, how we were going to pay for it,  the inconvenience of being without a kitchen from 4-6 weeks, how we were going to pay for it, .... well you get the gist.

So I immediately thought - "Oh, let's refinance the house".  So at the same time I began the kitchen remodel I also began the refinance.  Lower interest rate, lower monthly payments and less time that our house will be paid off.  My thought was that the money we would save by having a lower monthly house note would go into the kitchen remodel fund.  Well, the refinance is an ongoing process and hopefully will be finalized by the end of this month.

And the remodeling began last week.  So, we are on our way to having a new kitchen..... More on this in my next blog!

  1. I'm glad to see that you decided to write a blog about this, or anything that's important in your life. You may have already told me, but did the refinance go through okay? They have to be almost done with the kitchen, right? Seems like time is just flying by. In any case, I can't wait for the kitchen to be completed...sounds like it will be a dream to cook in!

    Love you!

  3. The counter tops will make all the difference in the world. By the way, I figured out how to follow the blog...evidently, I left off an "r", and accidentally added "sagekitchen", haha...it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to remove it from my list.
